Year 5
Weekly Update - Friday 16th May 2025
Summary of this week:
In Design Technology this week, the children have enjoyed creating enticing food labels for the Greek food they will be making next week. We were impressed with the colourful designs which included a list of ingredients and nutritional values – watch out Tescos and Sainsbury’s!
Our learning next week:
Maths: We will complete our topic on position and movement on a co-ordinate grid.
English: We will begin the week by watching a range of short, inspiring films from Literacy Shed to allow the children to write shared narratives or playscripts which they will be able to perform to the rest of the class.
In history, we will be learning about Athens v’s Sparta, in Design Technology the children will be making two Greek dishes – tzatziki and feta salad – which they can also taste test (alternatives will be provided for children who have a lactose/gluten free diet), in PSHE we will be learning top tips about how to maintain safe relationships online and in science the children will dissect a flower to learn about all its different parts.
Homework:
Spellings: We will be looking at Year 5 and 6 words.
Maths: Worksheet
English: Reading at home
Notices & Reminders:
Thames Young Mariners:
- Prior to the trip, parents/carers and children are invited to a talk at 3.30pm on Tuesday 20th May in the junior hall to learn more about the trip. This will include: photos of the centre and sleeping arrangements, provisional schedules of the two days, examples of the food on offer, reminder about what to take etc. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions. For those families that cannot attend, the presentation will be made available on the school website.
- This presentation will also be shown in school on several occasions prior to the date of going to ensure they are well versed on what to expect.
