Year 1

Weekly Update - Friday 12th September 2025

Summary of this week:

 Dear parents and carers,

We have had a great first two weeks back and all the children have done a great job at settling into their new classes.

Our learning next week:

English

We will continue to look at the book ‘The Gingerbread Man’. We will be retelling and writing the story.

Maths

Numbers 0-10. We will be writing number to 10 and counting to zero.

Phonics

We will be continuing our Year 1 little Wandle program and will be reviewing all phase 3 sounds.

We will continue with Independent Learning and will be looking at foundation lessons consisting of Geography, PSHE, Science, RE, PE, Art and Computing .

Reminders:

Flu immunisations- Wednesday 17th September

PE days:

Amber: Monday (outdoor) and Wednesday (indoor)

Blue: Monday (outdoor) and Friday (indoor)

Show and tell days:

Monday and Tuesday- Your child may bring in a certificate, medal, fun facts, etc. Please do not bring toys.

Healthy snack:

We kindly request that you provide a healthy snack (fruit or vegetables) for your child to enjoy in the afternoons. Please note that the school provides a morning snack for the children. We are noticing there are biscuits, crisps and chocolate. If your child's snack is placed in a Tupperware container, please ensure it is labelled with their name.

Jewellery:

Please can we remind you that if children are wearing earrings, they should be small, plain studs. Ideally, children should not wear earrings on PE days; otherwise, they will need to take them out themselves. Additionally, please ensure that if your child is wearing a watch, it is taken off prior to our PE lessons.

Reading record books-

Please try and fill in the reading record so we can see how much your child is reading (just the book name and an adult initial). When your child has read these books a minimum of 3 times, they can change their books in class. Please can reading records be brought into school every day.

We kindly request that children do not bring fiddle toys or any other toys from home to school These items are getting lost, which is causing upset among the children. To avoid any further upset, please ensure that all toys are kept at home. However, children who have specific arrangements in place and require these toys for support are exempt from this request. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Thank you for your endless support.
