Year 4
Weekly Update - Friday 12th September 2025
Summary of this week:
Year 4 have had a great start to the school year, launching into their new History unit – The Ancient Mayans! This week, we explored where they used to live and what things they discovered. Did you know the Ancient Mayans invented calendars, their own writing and number system and also used to learn from studying the stars and planets? In English, we have started our new suspense narrative – “The Manor House”, and in Maths, we have been revising place value, looking at thousands numbers.
Our learning next week:
Maths: We will be exploring how to round numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000.
English: We will be writing our own versions of our suspense narrative “The Manor House”, changing the location and main character’s actions.
Reading: We will be unpicking further chapters of “The Firework Maker’s Daughter”
Foundation:
In History, we will be learning about Ancient Mayan clothing.
In Art, we will be using charcoal and rubbers to create tone, shade and shapes in proportion.
In Computing, we will be learning about the safety and dangers when buying things online. In PSHE, we will be learning about being a school citizen.
In RE, we will be learning about Holy Communion.
In Science, we will be learning how to classify animals into groups.
In PE, we will be doing Dance: Soccerjam with Mrs Line and Football with the PE Coaches
Homework:
Maths: The Maths homework sheet will be stuck into books and given out on Tuesdays – please could children complete this and hand it in by Friday so teachers can mark, provide feedback and hand back by the following week.
Spellings: Please continue to practise the weekly spelling words at home in whichever way your child finds most useful.
Notices & Reminders:
Thank you to parents and carers for supplying children with pencil cases and appropriate resources this year! We use whiteboard pens, glue sticks and handwriting pens every lesson, so these might need topping up as things start to run out throughout the term. Please be aware that we haven’t yet got the children’s logins and passwords for Times Table Rockstars. These will be stuck inside the Maths Homework Book covers when we get them. The logins and passwords should be the same as last year, so if you still have this, you can access it now! Just a reminder that we encourage the children to not bring any toys into school, as we don’t want these going missing, or distracting our learning.
Thank you for your support with this! Miss Bullock, Mrs Secker, Mrs McKenzie and Mrs Milner.
