Weekly Update - Friday 20th December 2024
Summary of this week:
It has been such a fun week of Christmas activities including the amazing Christmas Fair hosted by The Friends where the children loved the excitement of buying secret gifts for the families (as well as a few for themselves!). Their visit to meet Father Christmas in his magical grotto was very special and followed by lots of fun Christmas games to play. We have enjoyed creating lots of Christmas crafts to bring home this week, shared a delicious Christmas lunch together and topped off the week with welcoming Father Christmas as he walked up the school drive accompanied by Mr Dell, not to mention a fun Christmas party! Thank you for providing the lovely treats for everyone!
We hope that you all have a thoroughly happy Christmas holiday and look forward to seeing you all back in school on Tuesday 7th January.
Our learning next week:
Talk Talk for writing book: Non-fiction texts about people who help us Song of the week: Miss Polly had a Dolly Makaton signs: to help, doctor, police officer etc etc
|
Homework:
Maths: Play games using a dice and recognise the number patterns.
Literacy: Ask the children to write their names on Christmas cards you may be sending.
Vocabulary: Names of different people who help us such as paramedic, pharmacist, vet, midwife, physiotherapist as well as the more commonly known ones like doctor, fire-fighter, police officer etc.
Notices & Reminders:
For show and tell on Thursday afternoon the children can bring in a favourite Christmas present if they would like to. If it’s very special or valuable they could bring in a photo or draw it instead.
Our topic at the beginning of next term will be ‘People Who Help Us’. We have found previously that it really brings the subject to life when the children hear directly from people who are in these jobs so we would like to put a call out to any police officers, nurses, firefighters, dentists, tree surgeons etc etc amongst our parent or grandparent community. If you are happy to come into school and talk to the children for ten or fifteen minutes about the job you do, we would be so grateful. Please talk to the class teachers if you can help. Thanks!
Do keep reading with and to your children over the holidays as and when you can!
Please keep reading books and reading diaries in the children’s book bag every day. The days that we have our reading practice sessions might change from week to week and it’s important that the children have their books with them. We have said to the children to simply return their books to their bags after they have read with you each evening. Hope that helps! Thank you
If you have taken your child’s wellies and waterproofs home for the holidays, please do remember to bring them back to school for the beginning of term. Thank you.
