Reception

Weekly Update - Friday 21st November 2025

Summary of this week:

Frost and then a snowfall this week has made for exciting exploration in our outdoor classroom!  It has certainly become cold very quickly and the children are getting to grips with putting on hats, scarves and gloves before they go outside.  They have enjoyed learning to think of and draw a plan before starting their boxcraft models to enable us to select the resources we need with care.  Thanks for continuing to provide us with lots of recyclable materials for the children to use and experiment with.

We really appreciate the great turnout for this week’s phonics workshop and hope you found it to be useful.  If anyone has feedback about ways to improve or further information you need then please do let us know.  We will be running a maths workshop in the Spring term.  The handouts which were available at the workshop will be sent home with the children this week for those unable to attend.

The children will have brought home the reading book that we use in our reading practise groups this week.  We are hoping they will be very excited to share it with you!

Our learning next week:

Maths

We will be focusing on comparing quantities of objects by matching them 1:1 and revisiting the use of the vocabulary more and fewer.

Literacy We will continue to use the talk for writing story ‘Stuck in the mud to develop oracy and sequencing skills and begin to learn ways in which we can edit the story to make it our own.

This week we will be focusing on the sounds vwx and y. Our new tricky words are and, has, his and her.

Notices & Reminders:

Please do ensure that the children have their reading records and books in every day in case it’s their group’s turn to read.

Can we make a plea to only send water into school for the children to drink?  It is causing confusion for the children when some children bring in squash.  Thank you.

Next week we will be learning the story of Christmas and starting to learn songs to perform in the Nativity.  The children will also choose the character they would like to play and we will send home letters to advise about costumes.  The season has begun!
