Reception
Weekly Update - Friday 18th November 2024
Summary of this week:
We started the week by learning about the importance of Remembrance Day. We watched a CBeebies clip to help the children understand the importance of remembrance. The link for this is here should you wish to access the resource at home.
After learning our story of The Little Red Hen, we made bread rolls. We learnt about the raw ingredients and where they are grown. We wrote instructions for Year 1 to tell them how we made our bread rolls.
In Explore Galore we got very messy making fire work paintings. We explored different styles of artwork before going outside to create some collaborative art of our own.
Our learning next week:
Talk for writing book: The Little Red Hen Song of the week: 5 little speckled frogs Talk for writing book: The Little Red Hen Explore Galore: Using the autumn inspired books Leaf Man and Yellow leaf, Red leaf by Lois Ehlert we will be exploring the types, colours, shapes of leaves and their potential in the outdoor classroom. Makaton: Over the past 6 weeks of school the children have been learning to use Makaton signs. Makaton is a language programme that combine signs, symbols and speech to give different options for people to communicate. As an inclusive school we use Makaton signs with the children daily. In your child’s book bag and attached to this message there is a list of the signs we have learnt so far. Each week we will update you with the sign we are learning and a link to a youtube video to demonstrate. This weeks signs: Autumn, Winter and Frog. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VkRRXMY9CVY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XiCYvOhSZI0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9M4OcqNQjxQ

Homework:
Maths: Think about your body. Can the children name some of the different parts that make the whole? Eg two arms, a head, two feet etc
Literacy: Re-tell the story of The Little Red Hen to a grown up at home. Can you remember all the steps of how to make a bread roll?
Vocabulary: Last week we learnt the Makaton for our emotions (see previously learnt Makaton sheet for details). Explore the vocab of feelings with your child by using the names for emotions you can see in books. Use a wide range of vocab to explore different emotions.
Notices & Reminders:
This week you will notice we have added a ‘Book of the week’ and ‘Song of the week’ to our classroom windows. The aim of these posters is to inform you of our talk for writing text that the children are learning, and the nursery rhyme we will be practicing this week. By practicing these at home with your child you can support their learning and retell of these familiar stories and rhymes.
We would welcome any contributions of plastic carrier bags (to send any wet clothes home in) and items of clean recycling such as cardboard tubes, yoghurt pots small boxes etc for our box craft. Thank you!
Please, please fill the children’s water bottles with water and not squash. It is part of the school’s healthy eating policy that we drink water at school and it becomes very confusing for the other children when some are bringing in squash to drink. Thank you.
