Weekly Update - Friday 14th November 2025

Summary of this week:

We have had another busy week in Reception. The children started the week learning about Remembrance. They made beautiful poppies to hang in our windows to help us remember. We hope you have enjoyed seeing them. The second half of the week we learnt about the celebration of Diwali. The children enjoyed using clay during their Art session and made beautiful Diwa lamps. They all really enjoyed their Diwali party where we danced and admired our lamps all lit up.

Our learning next week:

Maths	We will be focusing on counting, ordinality and cardinality.
Literacy	We will be starting our talk for writing story ‘Stuck in the mud’. This week we will be practicing telling the story orally and recording the story using our ‘Story S’ templates.
Phonics	This week we will be focusing on the sounds ff, ll, ss and j. Our new tricky words are put, pull, full and as.
Vocabulary	difference, ordinality, cardinality, blending, segmenting

PSED (Personal, Social, Emotional Development): Celebrating difference

DT: Junk modelling focus

Art: Threading

Makaton signs: cow, gorse, goat, rat

Homework:

Blending games- Can you play ‘Simon says’ whilst using robot talk.

For example:

Can you touch your kn-ee-s? Can you touch your h-ea-d? Can you s-p-i-n? Can you c-l-a-p?

Notices & Reminders:

Please remember to bring a coat with you every day. Even on Forest School days if the children have an all in one, they will still need a coat for playtime. It’s getting colder and wetter and we are outside whatever the weather!

We are increasing our reading practice sessions from next week and would like the children to have their reading records and books in every day in case it’s their group’s turn to read. Please make sure that they are in the children’s bags. The green Eastwick book bags are ideal for carrying books as well as the work they bring home.

COMPETITION

Next week the children will come home with an entry form to draw a picture of their family. They could win some resources for their school as well as having their entry published in a book!
