Year 3

Weekly Update - Friday 27th June 2025

Summary of this week:

Year 3 have had a messy week, painting and starting to create their structures in Art for their miniature playgrounds! We have also set up science experiments to test different materials and the friction they create for moving objects. In Reading, we have enjoyed unpicking a picture book called “One Tiny Turtle”, and in English we have been writing our own versions of a fairytale, changing the main characters and the settings.

Our learning next week:

Maths: We will be exploring the perimeter of a variety of 2D shapes.

English: We will be starting our new text “The Adventures of Robin Hood” and exploring formal letter writing.

In our Reading lessons, we will be unpicking a non fiction text all about “Water!” and its many uses.

Foundation:

In Geography, we will be exploring maps of Bookham from the past and comparing these to modern maps to see how the land has changed over time.

In PSHE, we will be learning about water safety and how to protect ourselves when in the water at a beach, lake or river.

In RE, we will be exploring the difference between the words “Fair” and “Equal”.

In Science, we will be setting up an experiment to test how quickly a toy car can move on different surfaces.

In Art, we will be making our own miniature playgrounds, thinking about 3D shapes and abstract sculptures, to inspire our ideas.

In PE, we will be doing orienteering with Mrs Line and Tri Golf with Coach Jay.

Homework

Maths

The Maths homework sheet will be given out on Tuesdays – please could children complete this and hand it in by Friday so teachers can mark, provide feedback and hand back by the following week.

Children are encouraged to use Times Table Rockstars for extra multiplication practise, a few times each week. Little and often is recommended! Logins and passwords are stuck inside the cover of the children’s maths homework books. Teachers will continue to award TTRS certificates on a Friday for those children that are using the website regularly throughout the week and making good progress with their times tables learning! 😊

Spelling

Please continue to practise the weekly spelling words at home in whichever way your child finds most useful.

Thank you for all of the art resources that were sent in for the children for their art projects! We look forward to finishing our miniature playground structures next week!

A reminder that the children will be told who their Year 4 class and teacher is on Monday before they go home. We then look forward to Move Up Morning on Tuesday, where the children will spend time with their new class and teacher for some fun transition activities!
