Year 3
Weekly Update - Friday 6th June 2025
Summary of this week:
We’ve made it to our final half term! Hasn’t this year flown by!?
The children got messy and medical this week, mummifying tomatoes to learn about the Egyptian mummification process! We also started our new English text – Egyptian Cinderella. In Science, we got practical cutting open fresh flowers to see the different reproductive parts. We also set up another seed experiment to see if they will grow in different conditions.
Our learning next week:
Maths: We will be continuing our unit about angles and turns. We will also be revising lots of our arithmetic methods from Autumn Term, ready for some maths quizzes next week!
English: We will be planning our own innovated versions of “The Egyptian Cinderella”, ready to write a narrative next week.
In our Reading lessons, we will be continuing to explore the chapter book “The Midnight Fox”, using predicting skills and exploring different characterisations.
Foundation:
In History, we will be learning about The Valley of the Kings and what the pyramids meant to the Egyptians.
In Science, we will be learning about pollination and seed dispersal.
In PSHE, we will be learning about how our bodies change over time.
In Computing, we will be making our own databases and graphs using Excel
In RE, we will be exploring: How do people try to make the world a fairer place?
In Art, we will be learning how to join different 3D shapes together to make sculptures.
In PE, we will be preparing for Sports Day with Mrs Line and Tri Golf with Coach Jay.
Homework
Maths
The Maths homework sheet will be given out on Tuesdays – please could children complete this and hand it in by Friday so teachers can mark, provide feedback and hand back by the following week.
Children are encouraged to use Times Table Rockstars for extra multiplication practise, a few times each week. Little and often is recommended! Logins and passwords are stuck inside the cover of the children’s maths homework books. Teachers will continue to award TTRS certificates on a Friday for those children that are using the website regularly throughout the week and making good progress with their times tables learning! 😊
Spelling
Please continue to practise the weekly spelling words at home in whichever way your child finds most useful.

Notices & Reminders:
We are very excited for Sports Day next week! All children should now know their house colour and will be asked to wear a t-shirt of this colour for the event next Thursday. We will meet parents up on the top field for a 9.30 start!
Please continue to check your children’s pencil cases – we are low on supplies now that we are at the end of the academic year. Children should each have a pencil, blue handwriting pen, glue stick and whiteboard pen. We really appreciate your support in providing these for your child.
Thank you as always for your support,
Miss Bullock, Mr Harber, Mrs Secker, Mrs McKenzie and Mrs Milner.
