Year 3
Weekly Update - Friday 17th January 2025
Summary of this week:
Year 3 have been getting mathematical this week, learning new methods for expanded and short multiplication. While we have found this new learning quite challenging, the children have been so resilient and will continue practising within their home learning over the next few weeks. In English, we have been writing some very humorous instruction texts about “How to get a woolly mammoth down from a tree”! The teachers really enjoyed reading all of the children’s creative ideas, like tempting the mammoth with food, capturing him in a giant net and tickling him with a feather duster! |
Our learning next week:
Maths: We will be learning how to divide a 2 digit number by a 1 digit number, using the expanded bus stop method.
English: We will be planning and writing an instruction text, using paired editing to improve and up-level our work.
In our Reading lessons, we will be reading and unpicking a text called “Julian Is A Mermaid”, which teaches themes of inclusion, diversity and uniqueness.
Foundation:
In History, we will be learning about Skara Brae – what it is and what it was used for in the Stone Age times.
In Science, we will be learning about what soil is and how it is formed.
In D&T, we will be designing initial ideas for our electric posters.
In PSHE, we will explore what bullying is and what to do if we feel that someone is being bullied.
In PE, we will be learning dance with Mrs Line and hockey with Coach Jay.
In Computing, we will be learning how to decompose a laptop and what is inside.
Homework
Maths The Maths homework sheet will be given out on Tuesdays – please could children complete this and hand it in by Friday so teachers can mark, provide feedback and hand back by the following week.
Children are encouraged to use Times Table Rockstars for extra multiplication practise, a few times each week. Little and often is recommended! Logins and passwords are stuck inside the cover of the children’s maths homework books. Teachers will continue to award TTRS certificates on a Friday for those children that are using the website regularly throughout the week and making good progress with their times tables learning! 😊 Spelling Please continue to practise the weekly spelling words at home in whichever way your child finds most useful.
