Year 3
Weekly Update - Friday 9th May 2025
Summary of this week:
What a beautifully sunny week! We have been hiding indoors with the blinds down to keep cool on some days, and enjoying the shade and lovely grassy area at the front of our classrooms on other days. The Year 3 children have had a busy week full of Fractions, “Ratpunzel”, the River Nile, seed experiments, swimming, athletics and so much more! In Art, we enjoyed painting designs onto our home-made Egyptian papyrus paper, and in RE, we learnt about Gurdwaras and what Sikhs use these buildings for. |
Our learning next week:
Maths: We will continue our unit on Fractions – learning how to compare and order fractions with different denominators.
English: We will be writing our own innovated versions of the fictional narrative called “Ratpunzel”. We will be changing the characters and the dangers that the main character faces!
In our Reading lessons, we will be exploring some more monster poetry from the book “It’s Behind You”.
Foundation:
In History, we will be learning about Egyptian Hieroglyphics (as well as many more themes in our Egyptian workshop!)
In Science, we will be learning about how water is transported within plant stems.
In PSHE, we will be learning about global citizenship.
In RE, we will be learning about the 5 Ks and what these mean to Sikhs.
In Art, we will be making mini zines, applying our knowledge of Egyptian art.
In PE, we will be learning athletics with Mrs Line and cricket with Coach Jay. We will also be swimming with our Dip ‘n’ Dive coaches.
Homework
Maths
The Maths homework sheet will be given out on Tuesdays – please could children complete this and hand it in by Friday so teachers can mark, provide feedback and hand back by the following week.
Children are encouraged to use Times Table Rockstars for extra multiplication practise, a few times each week. Little and often is recommended! Logins and passwords are stuck inside the cover of the children’s maths homework books. Teachers will continue to award TTRS certificates on a Friday for those children that are using the website regularly throughout the week and making good progress with their times tables learning! 😊
Spelling
Please continue to practise the weekly spelling words at home in whichever way your child finds most useful.

Notices & Reminders:
Our Egyptian workshops are on Monday – hooray! The children don’t need a costume or anything extra for this. In previous years, we made Egyptian headdresses and necklaces for them to wear, but due to the sessions being very drama-based and active, the children all ended up taking them off for comfort! Normal uniform will be much better 😊
A reminder that our Egyptian topic homework projects can be sent in the week commencing Monday 19th May. We are looking forward to seeing what the children have been getting up to! (This is optional – no pressure to make a project if you don’t have time!). The show and tell session will be on Wednesday 21st May.
Thank you as always for your support,
Miss Bullock, Mr Harber, Mrs Secker, Mrs McKenzie and Mrs Milner.
