Weekly Update - Friday 25th April 2025

A Summary of our learning:

Welcome to the summer term! We have been busy learning about fractions in maths. The children learnt that a fraction is a shape that has been split into equal parts. They learnt more about halves and quarters. In English, the children have been learning about The Elves and the Shoemaker. They also learnt more about suffixes and conjunctions linked to the story. In science, the children learnt about the differences between bulbs and seeds.

Our learning after half term:

English	The children will write their own story based on The Elves and the Shoemaker.
Spelling (whole class)	Try, tried, happy, happier, happiest, hurry, hurried
Spelling* (Mrs H’s group)	Phase 5 sounds: y (fly) ow (snow)
Maths	The children will be learning about fractions. They will learn about numerators and denominators and learn which 2 fractions make a whole.
Science	The children will learn more about plants and what they need to survive.

Notices & Reminders:

Swimming: Green and Turquoise will be swimming on Fridays. Violet on Mondays- Please make sure everything that you want to come home with your child, is named!

ELP Music Festival: we are going to the Howard on Wednesday 30^th April for the Music Festival. Please be prompt that day as we will need to be on the coach for 9am to get to the festival on time. The children will need to bring nothing with them (other than their usual water bottle).
Class Charts: Year 2 parents will shortly be able to download the parent app for our behaviour platform, Class Charts. Early next week, your child will receive a printed individual access code to give you so that you can engage positively with your child's personal development and success in school. Any feedback would be most welcome, via the year 2 email address.
