Year 2

Weekly Update - Friday 17th October 2025

A Summary of our learning:

Year 2 have had a great half term.

This week we planned our own set of instructions, edited our instructions and then published them.

In Maths, we have learnt our 2 and 5 times tables and journaled our knowledge using a variety of methods, including jottings, repeated addition and multiplication sentences.

In Science, we learnt about teeth and how to care for them. We enjoyed cleaning the model teeth with a toothbrush and toothpaste. We then explored plaque and what foods are healthy/ unhealthy for our teeth.

 Our learning after half term:

Maths

We will learn our 10 times table and then move on to explore the commutative law linked to the 2, 5 and 10 times table.

English

We will learn our new talk story ‘Traction Man’. We will box up the narrative and then focus on past and present tenses.

Reading

Your children will continue to read with an adult in their reading groups. We will inform you when we start to introduce whole class reading lessons.

Foundation:

In DT, we explore the concept and features of structures and the stability of different shapes.

In Computing, we will look at online safety and explore ‘How do I keep my things safe online?’

In PSHE, we will start to understand that sometimes people make assumptions about boys and girls (stereotypes) and we will investigate some ways in which boys and girls are similar.
In RE, our enquiry question for this half term is: Why do Christians believe God gave Jesus to the world?

In History, we start our new unit looking at Guy Fawkes and understanding why we celebrate Bonfire night.

In Science, we will be looking at germs and we will plan our investigation linked to handwashing.

In Music, we will start our new unit by exploring body and vocal warm ups.

In PE, Coaches will teach on a Tuesday and Class Teachers will teach PE on a Thursday.

 Homework:

Maths

Maths homework will be sent home every Friday and can be handed in from the Monday.
