Year 2

Weekly Update - Friday 19th December 2025

In Year 2, we have had a busy, fun filled week.

We wish all our families a merry Christmas and happy new year. We look forward to welcoming you back on Tuesday 6th January 2026.

A Summary of our learning:

In Maths, we continued our leaning linked to measuring in centimetres (cm) and metres (m). We applied our knowledge of length and addition/subtraction to answer word problems.

In English, we planned and wrote our hot task linked to our portal story ‘Jack and the Jelly Beanstalk’. It has been lovely to read the children’s portal stories as they contained wonderful vocabulary, time adverbials, noun phrases and possessive apostrophes.

In Science, we learnt about sustainability and changed a single use plastic item into a reusable item. The children were incredibly creative.

 Our learning next term:

Maths

We start our new unit on ‘mass’, we learn the definition of mass and measure mass in kilograms (kg) and grams (g).

English

We will learn our new talk story based on Mrs Armitage on wheels’.  We will then box up the text and learn how to use commas in a list.

Reading

Your children will continue to read with an adult in their reading groups. Our whole class reading text will focus on a range of skills, including retrieval, inference, word meanings and prosody.

Foundation:

In History, we start our new learning journey linked to ‘The Great Fire of London’

In Art, we will develop our knowledge of colour mixing.

In Computing, we will learn to recognise when to deny permission online.

In PSHE, we start our new unit ‘Dreams and goals’. We will choose a realistic goal and think about how to achieve it.

In RE, we start our new unit, ‘Islam’. We will focus on the enquiry: Who is God to Muslims?

In Science, we will consolidate our learning of plants by understanding that plants are living thing and that there are many different types of plants.

In PE, Coaches will teach every Tuesday and Teachers will teach gymnastics every Thursday.
