Year 2

Weekly Update - Friday 15th November 2024

A Summary of our learning:

This week, the children started learning about division. They learnt that division can be solved as equal groups or by sharing. The children learnt how to use the division symbol. In English, the children loved writing their own version of Traction Man. They adapted the talk story to include their own problem and resolution. In science, the children enjoyed learning about the difference between rocks and bricks. They loved exploring different plastics and glass to see if they were transparent, translucent, opaque, brittle, rigid, flexible and if it floated or sank.

Our learning next week:

English	The children will be writing their own action story. The children will listen to other action stories; they will then use these ideas, and their own, to plan and write their own story.
Spelling	Spelling- door, floor, poor, Christmas, children, father
Maths	The children will continue learning about division. They will learn to identify a family of multiplication and division facts.
Science	The children will continue learning about materials. They will learn about the properties of metal and fabric.

Autumn 2 Spellings

Notices & Reminders:

- Dress-up day- Monday 25^th November- Superheroes as a hook for their non-chronological reports.

- Walk to the church- For your information, Year 2 will be walking to the church on Friday 22^nd November at 9am.

- Water only in bottles please- no squash.

- Children in Need- Friday – children encouraged to wear spotty socks or one item of yellow with their uniform. There will be ‘Children in Need’ buckets on both gates on the day and children can also donate directly to their class teacher who will pass the donation on.

- Toilet rolls please! Please can you bring in the cardboard tube from a toilet roll or kitchen roll. These are needed for Monday 25^th

- Costumes: children should now be bringing in their costumes for the production. Please speak to your teacher if you need help with this.
