Year 3

Weekly Update Friday 7th June 2024

Summary of this week:

Welcome back to our final half term in Year 3 – wow! We can’t believe how quickly this year has gone.

We are finishing off our Egyptian history unit, mummifying tomatoes. We had to prepare them and take out the organs (seeds), clean them with antibacterial wash, fill them with salt and baking soda and wrap them carefully in bandages (kitchen roll)! We can’t wait to watch what happens over the next few weeks.

We have also had a fun Science lesson, planting cress seeds and putting them in different conditions, to test how well they grow with or without light, water and nutrients. In Maths, we have been learning about lines and angles and in English, we have been learning about formal letter writing, inspired by Robin Hood!

Our learning next week:

Maths:  We will be revising everything we have learnt this year including: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, as well as taking some quiz papers to see what we have remembered about time, fractions and angles.

English: We will be planning and writing formal letters, replying to Jack (Robin Hood’s friend!).

In History, we will be learning who Cleopatra was and why she is remembered.

In Science, we will be observing our cress seeds and seeing which ones grew best and why.

In Art, we will be making giant 3D sculptures using cardboard and paper.

In PSHE, we will be learning about balanced lifestyles (resting and being active in proportion).

In PE, we will be learning about Tri-Golf with the PE coaches and Orienteering with Mrs Line!

The Maths homework sheet will be given out on Tuesdays – please could children complete this and hand it in by Friday so teachers can mark, provide feedback and hand back by the following week.

Please continue to practise the weekly words at home in whichever way your child finds most useful. We also cover these words during our spelling lessons, so it is great if the children have prior knowledge of what we are covering!

Children are also encouraged to continuing using Times Table Rockstars for extra multiplication practise.

Notices & Reminders:

All children should now have been given a letter listing their colour house for Sports Day. Please could parents support in finding a t-shirt or accessory of this given colour, ready for Thursday 13th June. Parents are invited to join and watch our Sports Day activities from 9am onwards! Children should come to school in their normal PE kit (shorts/trainers), with their coloured Sports Day t-shirt.

Thank you as always,
Miss Bullock, Mrs Martyn, Mrs Harding, Mr Barnard, Mrs Porter and the Year 3 support staff.
