Reception

Weekly Update Friday 7th June 2024

Summary of this week:

We have enjoyed sharing our half term experiences with one another  and hearing all about the fun times the children have spent with family and friends.  This week, the children have thoroughly enjoyed their first PE lessons with Coach Matt on Wednesday morning where they learned to dribble a football as well as having fun playing warm up games like Spiderman Splat!

Our new floor covering of bark chips from the fallen tree in the field has meant far less mud, and the pine smell is wonderful!

Our learning next week:

Maths In Maths we will be starting our new ‘maths no problem’ maths sessions to get us ready for year 1. We will be exploring the question ‘How can we make a number bigger than 10?’
Literacy

We will be starting our new text ‘Home for pirate.

Phonics We will be having our assessment week.
Vocabulary Olympics, countries, partitioning

Homework:

Maths: Can the children demonstrate how to make a teen number in a range of ways e.g. building with bricks, items found on a walk, drawing pictures to demonstrate.

Literacy: Can you write your own pirate story or pirate sentence?

Vocabulary: Try to incorporate some of the week’s vocabulary into your conversations with the children.

Notices & Reminders:

We are changing our PE day to a Wednesday as we will now have our sports coaches running the sessions. Please may children therefore come to school wearing their PE kit on Wednesday each week instead of Monday.

Please keep reading with the children every day if you canIt really makes such a difference to their reading progress.   A trip to the library in Bookham is a lovely way to spend an hour!

With best wishes, The Reception Team
