Year 3
Weekly Update Friday 3rd May 2024
Summary of this week:
Year 3 have put all their history learning together this week to create non chronological reports about The Egyptians. The children remembered a huge number of facts and enjoyed a research lesson in English to find out extra details too! In Maths, we had a sing-song, learning the rhyme for how many days are in each month. We also learnt about parts inside of plants and crafted our own flowers using paper, blue tac and cotton buds, to represent each reproductive part. |
Our learning next week:
Maths: We will be starting our new unit on “Fractions”, learning about numerators, denominators and tenths of a shape.
English: We will starting our new text “Egyptian Cinderella”. We will be comparing this story to the original fairytale and unpicking the language that the author uses.
Foundation: In Science, we will be observing seeds within a range of fruits and vegetables, to find similarities and differences. In Art, we will be getting messy when making our own version of Egyptian papyrus paper, using PVA glue and brown paper strips. In PSHE, we will be learning about how to keep our teeth healthy. In Computing, we will be exploring the difference between paper databases and computerised databases. In PE, we will be taking part in athletics activities to prepare for Sports Day and continuing our swimming lessons. |
Homework:
The Maths homework sheet will be given out on Tuesday – please could children complete this and hand it in by Friday so teachers can mark, provide feedback and hand back by the following week.
Please continue to practise the weekly spelling words at home in whichever way your child finds most useful. We also cover these words during our spelling lessons, so it is great if the children have prior knowledge of what we are covering!
Children are also encouraged to continuing using Times Table Rockstars for extra multiplication practise.
Optional History project homework for this half term – please see details below!
