Weekly Update Friday 3rd May 2024

Summary of this week:

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have had another lovely week, and we are all looking forward to the bank holiday weekend!

Our learning next week:

English

This week the children have been writing their story ‘Zog and the Flying Doctors’. Next week we will begin to innovate the story

Maths

This week, the children have been learning about quarters, sharing and grouping and started to look at numbers to 100 and place value. Next week the children will be continuing to compare numbers within 100 and we will then move onto telling the time to o’clock and half past.

Phonics

We will be continuing to review new phase 5 alternative sounds.

We have also started streamed phonics sessions where we are looking at alien and real words.

We will continue with Science, Computing, History, Art, PSHE, PE and Music foundation lessons.

Homework:

Reading record books- Please try and fill in the reading record so we can see how much your child is reading (just the book name and an adult initial). When your child has read these books a minimum of 3 times, they can change their books in class. Please can reading records be brought into school every day.

Spellings- The weekly spelling books will be sent home on a Monday and need to be returned to school on the following Monday, for new spellings to be added.

Please continue to practise counting forwards and backwards from any given number within 50. Please also continue to practise counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s.

Swimming- Children come into school in their school uniform on their swimming days and bring their swimming things in a named bag. Please label all your child’s swimming things so their belongings do not go missing. Please also refer to the swimming timetable for your child’s swimming day.

PE- Thursday will be our usual PE day with sports coaches as normal. Please could children come to school in their PE kits. The children will be learning about striking and fielding.

Please ensure all children bring a named coat to school. Children can bring a pair of wellies and leave them in their cloakroom to use. Pink class will be doing Forest school on Tuesday.

A lot of children have been coming into school with toys to play with. As a year group we have decided we will not be allowing toys to be brought into school. This is for several reasons. Children's belonging are getting damaged, completely broken, or lost which leads to distress which can be avoided.

Please ensure your child comes to school with a water bottle (water only, not squash) and a healthy snack (school fruit is available).

This week we are asking for your donations of new and pre-loved games (please ensure they are complete if you are donating pre-loved).

There will be morning collections available in either infants or juniors at drop off from 8.30am on Friday 3rd May and also on Friday 10th May.

If you have an iPad please upload PocketPhonic Stories. This is an app that is excellent for teaching handwriting, phonics and reading. You will need to log in for your child but then they should be able to complete these on their own. There are certificates you can print off to motivate your child.
